Five houses are currently under construction on a 5,000 sq. m. stretch of upland within the boundaries of the village Melidoni.
The project is called “On the Rocks” because when excavations began we came across solid rock wherever we started to break the soil. So, you could be the owner of a house built literally “On the Rocks”!
Our idea was to construct authentic traditional houses that will blend in well beside any older village house, and we believe we have succeeded.
The houses are built to the highest standards and are very robust. We have avoided cost-pruning and corner-cutting at, ultimately, your expense.
You are welcome to view the project at any time, with or without prior notice. Just ask for “the stone houses” at the village coffee-shop.
** Approximate price of pool 20.000€
Each of our houses is built on a different level, following the traditional village pattern.
Each house is different and unique in its own way but all of them are traditional in size and design.
Each house is furnished with:

Stone houses are friendly to the environment, keeping cool in summer and warm in winter (provided you know when to close the windows!)
We use locally-quarried stone and Austrian pine from controlled-cutting forests.
Central heating: there is separate autonomous system on each floor for economy
We urge you to:
Panoramic all-round views towards:
Each house has been carefully placed in such a way as to ensure that these views will remain unimpeded even if additional houses are built on neighbouring lands.
A beautiful tranquil village in the foothills of the White Mountains - 450m height above sea level.
Here there are two sleepy village coffee shops where nothing has changed since the 50’s except the television. The elderly play cards, talk about their sheep, and await their grandchildren to come for the weekend. Old Cretan hospitality is found here.
A new, recommended tavern-restaurant “Kopanistra” is open every evening, offering authentic local cuisine and the best dairy products.
A short drive downhill from Melidoni brings you to the picturesque – and protected – regional village of Fres (3 km). Here you will find a bakery, shops for all your daily requirements, and good tavernas. More sophisticated shopping can be done at the large central villages of Vamos 11 km(health centre) and Vryses, (10km) where you will find banks, a chemist, doctors, restaurants and shops for all your needs. Kalyves 12 km offer the nearest beach: kyani akti and together with Almyrida are a large tourist center.
A six-kilometre drive from Melidoni down well-surfaced secondary roads brings you to the National Highway.
Melidoni is 6 km from the National Highway (8 minutes). From the junction:
The times are calculated using average speeds and light traffic.
Located at an altitude of 450m above sea level, in the 'roots' of the White Mountains, Melidoni and all the scenic routes to Theriso are good starting points for walks or drives to the country chapels like Ag Prevma at 1200m, Ag Pavlos, and Psyhro Pigadi. These are excellent starting points for reaching the highest peaks before sunset.
Cave Exploration
Recently a huge cave complex has been explored by a Greco-French expedition team. There are indications that it is actually much deeper than the 1200m already explored - but no further exploration has taken place this year. It may prove to be the second deepest cavern in the world. Note: cave exploration should be licensed by the local authorities.
